SUMMARY:Externship in Emotionally Focused Therapy
DESCRIPTION:Innovative and inspiring\, this 4-day\, 9AM-5PM Externship provides you with an in-depth and practical introduction to the practice of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT). EFT remains a leading empirically supported treatment of couple distress. The Created for Connection Externship is designed to prepare therapists to reach couples who value a faith sensitive approach to couple therapy. The Externship offers a unique opportunity to incorporate key insights from Dr. Sue Johnson and Kenny Sanderfer’s recent book Created for Connection\, a hands-on resource designed for Christian couples. \nThis unique training experience brings together four days of practical demonstrations\, experiential exercises and dynamic presentations walking you step by step through the EFT process of change. The Externship is approved by the International Centre for Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT) and provides the first level of training required for certification as an Emotionally Focused Therapist. In addition\, this training explores the integration of EFT principles and practices with theological insights and experiences common to Christian couples. \nThe Externship is led by ICEEFT-Certified trainer Kenny Sanderfer who has developed spiritually-oriented resources for applying EFT to couples seeking to strengthen their relationship through their Christian faith. \nParticipants will:\nLearn primary EFT concepts based on attachment and emotion theory.\nIdentify EFT stages and steps and related interventions.\nPractice EFT interventions used to promote de-escalation and restructuring relationships.\nExplore the process of creating emotional bond through corrective emotional experiences.\nExamine EFT concepts and practices and their value to Christian couples. \nThis externship will be led by Kenny as well as Dana Vince. Dana is a licensed professional counselor\, mental health service provider\, certified Emotionally Focused Couples therapist and supervisor. She is the founder and owner of Healing Hearts Counseling in Knoxville. \nTo Register: https://my.therapysites.com/sites/efttennessee.com/EFTExternshipRegistrationKnoxville.en.html

SUMMARY:Nurturing Your Marriage in Adoption or Foster Care Seminar
DESCRIPTION:This seminar will be led by KMI’s Clinical Director\, Adam York and will be appropriate for all foster and adoptive parents. \nAs foster and adoptive parents\, many of us understand the critical contributions that Attachment Theory has given to our understanding of our children. In this seminar\, Adam will discuss how attachment theory influences how we relate to our significant others from the cradle to the grave. The fear of losing connection with our partners leads us to paradoxically act in ways that disrupt connection and leave us further apart. In this 90 minute seminar\, Adam will introduce you to critical concepts in understanding your marriage and guide you through a brief exercise to help reflect on how to relate at a deeper level. Your marital relationship is the primary vehicle for modeling secure attachment to your children\, and this occurs both through the way you respond to your partner and the way you respond to your children. \nFor tickets\, please click this link: KAFCAM Conference \n

SUMMARY:Helping Couples Deepen Their Bond
DESCRIPTION:Healthy Connections Knoxville (KMI) is committed to providing high-quality training and support to area churches and therapists who are interested in improving and serving community marriages.  Many of you are already partners with us in providing empirically supported and effective relationship education workshops to church and community couples.  (If you are not yet a partner and would like to learn more\, please see our website: knoxvillemarriageinitiative.org or contact us at contact@healthyconnectionsknoxville.org). \nThe first “not good” thing listed in all of Scripture is this\, “It is not good for man to be alone.” Come find out how attachment theory and bonding science have confirmed that most couples conflicts over everything from money to sex is rooted in a longing for closeness and a fear of being alone. Through this seminar\, Dana Vince will introduce you to Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy (EFT)\, a theory of couples counseling that has proven effective in helping restore couples relationships. This conceptual and practical introduction to EFT will be relevant to anyone (pastors\, therapists\, and lay-leaders) who serve and walk alongside couples. You will be given a conceptual framework to understand couple’s conflicts and an introduction to how couples can move forward through it. This 3 hr seminar will be hosted on Nov. 14 from 9-12 at Cokesbury United Methodist Church North Campus 9919 Kingston Pike. \nA certificate for three hours of continuing education will be provided for all therapists\, social workers\, counselors\, and psychologists in attendance. Coffee and snacks will be provided. For partner churches\, this seminar will be $10 to all pastors and therapists who are members of the church. For non-partner churches and community therapists\, the cost will be 50$. \nBrief Presenter Bio \nDana Vince\, MA\, LPC-MHSP\, has spent her entire career helping families have healthier\, stronger relationships. She served in Army intelligence for four years and received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Chaminade University in Hawaii and then received her master’s degree in counseling with a certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of South Florida (She is tired of sandy beaches and is happy to call the mountains and trees of Tennessee home :). She is the regional expert in Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy and the only certified EFT supervisor in the East Tennessee region. She frequently assists in national level trainings of EFT therapists. She leads multiple marriage workshops a year and leads the EFT community in this region. She maintains a private practice meeting with couples and supervises a number of therapists working towards certification in EFT. She sees marriages as the foundation for family life and has made it her life’s pursuit to strengthen couple’s relationships. \nRegister for the seminar below or contact us at contact@healthyconnectionsknoxville.org if you have any questions and/or concerns. \nCode Embed: Cannot use CODE1 as a global code as it is being used to store 21 unique pieces of code in 30 posts \n \n

SUMMARY:Helping Couples Recover from Infidelity
DESCRIPTION:Healthy Connections Knoxville (KMI) is committed to providing high-quality training and support to area churches and therapists who are interested in improving and serving community marriages.  Many of you are already partners with us in providing empirically supported and effective relationship education workshops to church and community couples.  (If you are not yet a partner and would like to learn more\, please see our website: knoxvillemarriageinitiative.org or contact us at kmi@compassioncoalition.org). \nTo expand on our services\, we would like to offer a series of targeted workshops that will help to better equip pastors and therapists to address difficult issues that couples today are likely to face. Our first workshop will be on how to understand and address betrayal and infidelity in relationships. This issue is one of the most challenging issues that people who treat couples encounter and many people feel overwhelmed by the complex and conflicting emotions and problems that these couples bring into their meetings.  However\, Dr Kristina Gordon\, KMI’s Executive Director\, has developed and researched an effective approach to treating these couples and would like to share what she has discovered with the Knoxville community. We are hosting a 3 hour lunch and learn workshop on Aug. 29th from 10:30-2 at Fellowship Church\, 8000 Middlebrook Pike Knoxville\, room 601. \nA certificate for three hours of continuing education will be provided for all therapists\, social workers\, counselors\, and psychologists in attendance. Lunch will be served at the workshop for all participants who register in advance through our website. For partner churches\, this workshop will be free to all pastors and therapists who are members of the church. For non-partner churches and community therapists\, the cost will be 50$. \nTo register for the workshop\, go to https://rbknox.org/calendar/ or contact us at kmi@compassioncoalition.org. \nBrief Presenter Bio \nDr. Kristi Gordon has spent her entire career seeking to help couples have healthy\, vibrant relationships (Really\, check her vita: http://web.utk.edu/~kgordon1/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/CV_Gordon.pdf). Dr. Gordon received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed her clinical psychology internship at the Brown University Consortium. She is currently Full Professor and Director of Clinical Training in the Department of Psychology at the University of Tennessee. She has served on two multi-million dollar government grants seeking to understand and support couples relationships. She is the co-author of two books on how to help couples recover following infidelity published by Guilford Press\, and of numerous articles on forgiveness\, infidelity\, and general couple distress. She was elected a Fellow in the Society for APA’s Couple Family Psychology and was recently President of that Division. She serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Family Psychology\, Family Process\, and Couple and Family Psychology: Research and Practice. Her work regarding infidelity has been cited in national media outlets such as the New York Times\, USA Today\, Psychology Today\, and the APA Monitor\, and in regional and local TV and news media.
